Family Medicine Residents to discuss staying healthy

May's "Dine with the Docs" program will give attendees the opportunity to learn about the latest recommendations for health screenings to help stay healthy.

They will also have the opportunity to learn more about the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program and meet four of the Residents.

The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 9, in the Conference Center at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital on the basement level of the East Tower.  A complimentary dinner will be provided in Chatters CafĂ© at 5:30 p.m. and the program will follow at 6:30 p.m. 

Reservations are required for the dinner and presentation.

This day and age, there are screenings available for dozens of health conditions, but there are important criteria to follow to ensure you are making the most of your healthcare dollars by taking advantage of the screenings that are recommended as being appropriate for you at your age and stage of life. 

Four of our Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Family Medicine Residents will provide this important information.  Included in the presentation are: Dr. John Manire, third-year Resident and graduate of University of Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine; Dr. Michael Donnelly, second-year Resident and graduate of A.T. Still University of Health Sciences Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine; Dr.Thomas Loesevitz, second-year Resident and graduate of University of Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine; and Dr. Tonya Shea, University of Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

In addition to learning about important health screenings, attendees will also have the opportunity to ask questions about the Family Medicine Residency program and learn how these doctors are completing their residency requirements locally. 

Dr. Larry Oteham, Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program Director, will be involved in the Dine with the Docs program as well. He holds both a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Logan College of Chiropractic in St. Louis, Missouri, and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the University of Health Sciences, Kansas City, Missouri.   

He completed his Family Practice Residency at Des Peres Hospital, in St. Louis, Missouri.

After twenty years in private practice, Dr. Oteham joined the faculty of the University of Pikeville -- Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine (KyCOM), as Associate Professor of Osteopathic Principles and Practices.  While at KyCOM, he was named Educator of the Year and was awarded the Golden Apple Award for Excellence in teaching as well as the Faculty Appreciation Award.

In 2013, Dr. Oteham joined Lake Cumberland Medical Associates as a family practice physician. He is also the Program Director for the Family Medicine Residency program at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. 

Dr. Oteham is board certified by both the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
