The Internal Medicine Residency Program is an innovative program that incorporates both inpatient and outpatient medicine experiences, as well as many sub-specialty rotations into a dynamic education process. Joseph Weigel, MD, MACP - Program Director

Dr. Joseph Weigel is a nearly lifelong resident of Somerset and Pulaski County, Kentucky. After graduating from Somerset High School, he attended the University of Louisville, where he graduated with honors with a BS in Biology.  In 1981, Dr. Weigel graduated with honors from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he was also elected to Alpha Omega Alpha.

After earning his medical degree, Dr. Weigel completed his residency training at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and returned to Somerset in early 1985, where he joined the practice of Lake Cumberland Medical Associates and remains in the practice of General Internal Medicine. For the first several years, he was fortunate enough to practice with his father, who preceded him as a General Internist in Somerset.

Dr. Weigel is a career-long member of the American College of Physicians, attaining Mastership in 2014.  He served as Governor of the Kentucky Chapter between 1998 and 2002, and is also a Chapter Laureate Awardee.  Dr. Weigel has also served Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital as Chief of the Medicine Service and Chief of the Medical Staff.

Dr. Weigel is passionate about the excellence of this program, and is intent on making this the best possible learning experience it can be for aspiring physicians.


Reaford Blackburn, Jr., MD - Associate Program Director

Dr. Reaford Blackburn is a Kentucky native, born and raised in Pikeville, KY. After graduating from East Ridge High School, he attended Alice Lloyd College where he graduated valedictorian with a BS in Biology.  In 2012, Dr. Blackburn graduated summa cum laude from the University of Louisville School of Medicine, where he was also elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. 

After earning his medical degree, Dr. Blackburn completed his residency training and time as Chief Medical Resident at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and settled in Somerset in 2016, where he joined the Apogee hospitalist group. He is fortunate to practice medicine alongside his wife, who is also a hospitalist at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

Dr. Blackburn is a member of the American College of Physicians. He has served as a Waxman Scholar at ACP and regularly attends national meetings devoted to furthering academic medicine.

Dr. Blackburn is passionate about resident education with a focus on inpatient bedside teaching, procedural teaching and point of care ultrasound.

In his free time, Dr. Blackburn and his wife enjoy time with their three dogs. He also enjoys bass fishing, time outdoors, and spending time with friends.

Umar Bhatti, DO

Dr. Umar Bhatti is a native of Chicago, Illinois. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, Illinois. Dr. Bhatti completed medical school at the Lincoln Memorial University - DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee.

Dr. Bhatti has joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue his interest in internal medicine and to help those in need. In his free time, Dr. Bhatti enjoys traveling, being outdoors, playing sports, learning new cultures, and spending time with his family. 



 

William Cagle, DO

Dr. William Cagle is a native of Salisbury, North Carolina. He completed undergraduate studies at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina. Dr. Cagle completed medical school at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. 

Dr. Cagle joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue his interest in hospital medicine and rheumatology. In his free time, Dr. Cagle enjoys traveling, reading, watching movies and hockey. 


 

Daniel Hamilton, DO

Dr. Daniel Hamilton is a native of Randolph, Ohio. He completed undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University in Columbus. Dr. Hamilton completed medical school at the Lincoln Memorial University DeBusk College of Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee.

Dr. Hamilton's joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program career to pursue providing health services to individuals with intellectual disabilities. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, hiking, camping and physical fitness activities. 

Amir Rashid Kazi, DO

Dr. Amir Rashid Kazi is a native of Greenville, South Carolina. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. Dr. Rashid Kazi completed medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg.

Dr. Rashid Kazi joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue his interests in hospital medicine, especially working with critical care patients. He is also interested in providing disaster relief in areas of need. In his free time, Dr. Rashid Kazi enjoys traveling the world, and outdoor activities such as hiking, ziplining, kayaking and golfing. He enjoys watching USC Gamecock football. 

Meghan Ryan, DO

Dr. Meghan Ryan is a native of Franklinville, New York. She completed undergraduate studies at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Dr. Ryan completed medical school at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Ryan joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue her intersets in hospital medicine and critical care medicine. In her free time, Dr. Ryan enjoys spending time with her dog, hiking, outdoor activities and exploring new foods. 

Jonathan Walrath, DO

Dr. Jonathan Walrath is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. He completed undergraduate studies at Morehead State University. Dr. Walrath completed medical school at the University of Pikeville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky.

Dr. Walrath has joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue his interest in medical missions and hopes to use his training to help patients in need both in the U.S. and abroad. In his free time, Dr. Walrath enjoys being outdoors, hiking, rock climbing, kayaking and fishing.

Matt Antalis, DO

Dr. Matt Antalis is a native of Delphos, Ohio. He completed undergraduate studies at The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Antalis completed medical school at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, West Virginia.

Dr. Antalis joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue his interests in hospital medicine, with hopes to return to his hometown to practice. In his free time, he enjoys time at the beach, the outdoors, fishing and wathcing The Ohio State Buckeyes. 



 

Taylor Clayton, DO

Dr. Taylor Clayton is a native of Taylorsville, Kentucky. She completed undergraduate studies at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. Dr. Clayton completed medical school at the University of Pikeville - Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky.

Dr. Clayton joined the Lake Cumberlan Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue ther interests in internal medicine and hospital medicine. In her free time, Dr. Clayton enjoys spending time with family, friends, her dog, Milo, and vising local coffee shops and bakeries. 


 

Laura Helgren, DO

Dr. Laura Helgren is a native of Lansing, Michigan. She completed undergraduate studies at Grand Valley State University in Township, Michigan. Dr. Helgren completed medical school at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Dr. Helgren joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue her interest in internal medicine and procedures. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, horseback riding, painting and drawing. 



 

Kevin Hinson, DO

Dr. Kevin Hinson is a native of Jerseyville, Illinois. He completed undergraduate studies at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tennessee. Dr. Hinson completed medical school at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Dr. Hinson's joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue cardiology and critical care. He is an avid birder and enjoys golfing and other outdoor actvities. 



 

Soleiman Osman, DO

Dr. Soleiman Osman is from Pleasanton, California. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of California Davis. Dr. Osman completed medical school at Lincoln Memorial University - DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine in Herrogate, Tennessee.

Dr. Osman's joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue internal medicine, medical technology and serving patients in rural and underserved communities. In his free time, Dr. Osman enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching movies, playing soccer and basketball. 


 

Ryan Weiss, MD

Dr. Ryan Weiss is from Los Angeles, California. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Wisonsin in Madison. Dr. Weiss completed medical school at St. George's University School of Medicine in West Indies, Grenada.

Dr. Weiss joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue his interest in hospital medicine and critical care medicine. In his free time, Dr. Weiss enjoys hiking, skiing, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. 

Curtis Williams, DO

Dr. Curtis Williams is a native of Mouthcard, Kentucky. He completed undergraduate studies at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. Dr. Williams completed medical school at the University of Pikeville - Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky.

Dr. Williams joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue his interest in hospital medicine, pulmonology and stem-cell therapy. In his free time, Dr. Williams enjoys golf and lake activities, and watching the Kentucky Wildcats.

Michael Baker, MD 

Dr. Michael Baker is a native of Lexington, Kentucky. He completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky. Dr. Baker completed medical school at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. 

Dr. Baker joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue hospital medicine. In his free time, Dr. Baker enjoys playing the guitar, reading, exercising and being outdoors. 



 

Jeffrey Burton, DO 

Dr. Jeffrey Burton is a native of Naperville, Illinois. He completed his undergraduate studies at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. Dr. Burton completed medical school at The University of Pikeville- Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky. 

Dr. Burton  joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue a fellowship and work in a community hospital. In his free time, Dr. Burton enjoys watching movies, exercising and spending time with friends and family. 

Marvin Cuevas, DO 

Dr. Marvin Cuevas is a native of Wiggins, Missouri. He completed undergraduate studies at Central Baptist College in Conway, Arkansas. Dr. Cuevas completed medical school at Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Lynchburg, Virginia. 

Dr. Cuevas joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue hospital medicine. In his free time, Dr. Cuevas enjoys spending time with his wife and children, golfing, fishing and hunting.  
 

Joshua Holt, DO 

Dr. Joshua Holt is a native of Liberty, Kentucky. He completed his undergraduate studies at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. Dr. Holt completed medical school at The University of Pikeville- Kentucky College of Osteopathic Medicine in Pikeville, Kentucky. 

Dr. Holt  joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to practice hospital medicine in Kentucky. In his free time, Dr. Holt enjoys playing drums, fixing things, building Lego sets, and spending time with his wife and two children (who sometimes get to play with Legos, too). 



 

Jordan Laferty, MD 

Dr. Jordan Laferty is from Louisville, Kentucky. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Dr. Laferty completed medical school at St. George's University School of Medicine in West Indies, Grenada

Dr. Laferty joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue a fewllowship in Hematology and Oncology and practice within that field. Dr. Laferty considers himself a "University of Kentucky Wildcats Basketall enthusiast." He enjoys spending time with his family and friends, reading, watching his favorite shows on Hulu or Netflix, and playing video games. 

Sarah Mills, DO 

Dr. Sarah Mills is a native of Barbourville, Kentucky. She completed undergraduate studies at Union College in Barbourville. Dr. Mills completed medical school at Lincoln Memorial University- DeBusck College of Osteopathic Medicine in Harrogate, Tennessee. 

Dr. Mills joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue Internal Medicine in underserved areas, both in the U.S. and abroad. In her free time, Dr. Mills enjoys traveling, kayaking, swimming, hiking, playing the piano, and spending time with friends and family. 

Stephen Voss, DO 

Dr. Stephen Voss is a native of Fruithurst, Alabama. He completed undergraduate studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Dr. Voss completed medical school at Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan, Alabama. 

Dr. Voss joined the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital Residency Program to pursue a fellowship in pulmonary/critical care medicine. In his free time, Dr. Voss enjoys golfing, cycling, Classic BMWs, and Auburn Athletics.
